32 tonnes of adulterated Chilli seized

VIJAYAWADA: The police seized 32 tonnes of adulterated chilli powder being transported in two lorries in raids conducted at Penugolanu village of Gampalagudem mandal in Krishna district on Thursday. They apprehended four persons who admitted that the stocks belonged to chilli trader Vengala Rao. They further said Rao operates from Guntur district and he has more stocks of adulterated chilli powder at Sri Venkateswara Cold Storage at Eelandlugunda in Krishna district.

Gampalagudem sub-inspector Siva Ramakrishna said two lorry loads of adulterated chilli powder were on their way to Aswaraopet under Madhira mandal of Khammam district in Telangana from Eelandlugunda village in Krishna district. The stocks were stored at Sri Venkateswara Cold storage at Eelandlugunda village before their transportation.

“Drivers of both the lorries took a diversion after coming to know that they were being followed by the officials. However, they were stopped on the highway at Penugolanu village,” said Siva Ramakrishna.

Meanwhile, 12,000 bags of adulterated chilli powder were seized from millers and traders in guntur city on Thursday.
