How To Make Cabbage Vada (Kerala Style Cabbage Pakoda)




  • Cabbage (Chopped into long strips)- 1 cup
  • Onion -2 (chopped into small pieces)
  • Gram flour- 1 1/2 cup
  • Red chili powder- 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida powder-1/4 tsp
  • Salt- as needed



  • Water- 1/4 cup
  • Green chilies- 2(Chopped into small pieces)
  • Ginger-garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  • Coconut oil- 1/2 cup


  • Mix together chopped cabbage, onion, gram flour, green chilies, red chili powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida powder, salt, water, ginger-garlic paste and water using the hand.



  • Heat coconut oil in a heavy bottomed pan
  • When the oil gets heated well, take a handful of dough and drop into the oil as small balls
  • When one side turns golden brown in color, flip the bonda to the other side and fry well
  • When both sides are fried well, remove it from oil and spread to a paper towel
  • Serve hot with tomato sauce
