Bolgatty Castle is a previous royal residence worked by the Dutch in India, situated on the island prominently known as Bolghatty Island in Kochi, Kerala. One of the most seasoned existing Dutch castles outside Holland, this interesting house, worked in 1744 by Dutch merchants, was later developed and gardens were finished around it. The building was then the Representative’s royal residence for the authority of Dutch Malabar, and later in 1909 was rented to the English. It served as the home of the English Governors, being the seat of the English Occupant of Cochin amid the English Raj.

History

In 1947, when India achieved autonomy, the royal residence turned into the property of the state and was later changed over into a resort.
