In 1980s, there was a large Islamic restoration movement in Saudi. On this occasion the believed that the films were against their religious theories and closed all the theaters.

Currently there is only one movie hall in the country. It is the Imax Theater in Khobar. Not all movies are displayed in the theater. It was just for documentaries in science and technology.
About 35 years later, the Saudi government hopes to resume theaters. Saudi Minister said one of the opening ceremonies of the movie will start in March this year. the makers of 2.0 are actually leaving no stone unturned in releasing the magnum opus there.

On this, Raju Mahalingam, COO of Lyca Productions, said “The overall revenue for a big film production can increase by 30 per cent. Since movies have now begun to open in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in India, we hope to release them in all three languages in Saudi Arabia too. A new market in West Asia, where a substantial number of Tamil and Malayalees stay, will be a big boost for our movies.”
