VIJAYAWADA: The state government will unveil plans to raise the per capita income of urban poor to Rs 10,000 a month. Stating this, municipal administration minister P Narayana said the per capita income of the slum dwellers in AP is much lower than the income of urban poor in neighboring states.

Narayana said the government has decided to pool Rs 3,000 crore from banks to undertake poverty alleviation programs and added that a blueprint has been readied to train at least 70,000 unemployed youth from urban slums so that they earn more.

He agreed that urban poor in AP earn around Rs 3,000 per month, which is not sufficient to lead a decent life. It is more than Rs 12,000 in other states. He said this at a review meeting of district-level project directors of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (Mama) here.
